Three Venezuelan Migrants Arrested for Armed Robbery in Buena Park
According to Chicago police and court records, three Venezuelan migrants have been charged with armed robbery after allegedly robbing three women at gunpoint inside a Buena Park apartment building.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place on November 22, as the women were returning from a night out in the Gold Coast. Upon reaching the front door of their apartment in the 700 block of West Gordon Terrace around 12:17 a.m., three males followed them into the building without their knowledge.
Prosecutors stated that one of the males, a juvenile, revealed a handgun in his waistband and gestured for the victims to remain quiet. Two of the women complied and handed over their purses containing wallets and credit cards. The third woman had her purse worn across her chest, which was forcibly removed by one of the robbers before they fled the scene with all three bags.
Fortunately, all the victims had their phones on them and were able to quickly call 911. Police officers conducted a search of the area and apprehended three males matching the suspects’ descriptions near Lake Shore Drive and Addison shortly after the robbery.
Discovery of Evidence
Although Jose Dominguez-Rosario and Deus Rojas, both 18, along with an unnamed juvenile, did not have the gun or any of the stolen property in their possession, all three women positively identified them as the perpetrators. Subsequently, they were taken into custody.
Shortly after the arrests, a loaded 9mm handgun was discovered by a citizen in the 3600 block of North Lake Shore Drive, close to where the suspects were apprehended. Additionally, the victims’ purses were found by another citizen in the 4100 block of North Marine Drive, just a few blocks away from the scene of the robbery.
Legal Proceedings
Jose Dominguez-Rosario and Deus Rojas were ordered to be detained pending trial by Judge James Murphy III. As for the juvenile involved, details about his case remain undisclosed due to the confidentiality of juvenile records in Illinois. All three individuals are facing three counts of armed robbery.
