22-Year-Old Venezuelan Man Jailed for Sexual Assault of 13-Year-Old Girl
Anthony Torres Fuentes, a 22-year-old Venezuelan man, has been arrested and jailed after being accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in her South Shore home last fall. Fuentes was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Queens, New York, on May 20 and extradited to Chicago to face charges of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 and aggravated criminal sexual assault causing bodily harm.
According to prosecutors, the incident took place on the night of November 18 when Fuentes, who had been drinking heavily with the victim’s mother and a mutual friend, became intoxicated. The friend eventually left, and Fuentes passed out on the couch. The victim locked herself in her bedroom, but Fuentes allegedly used a knife or similar object to force open the door. He then restrained the girl by the throat, covered her mouth, and proceeded to rape her. The victim fought back by biting his hand and kicking him during the assault.
After the assault, Fuentes allegedly messaged the girl on Facebook, expressing remorse and acknowledging that he had violated or raped her. The victim immediately contacted a friend, who then called 911. Fuentes fled the scene on foot, leaving behind his belongings and immigration paperwork.
The victim’s mother, who was asleep during the incident, was only alerted when her daughter informed her about the police presence outside. The girl was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital for treatment and evidence collection, where DNA evidence was recovered from the victim, her clothing, and a towel found in the home.
Further investigation revealed that Fuentes had allegedly assaulted the same girl in 2023 when she was 12 years old. Despite claiming it was consensual, Fuentes was held in custody as Judge Susana Ortiz recognized the severity of the case, citing his use of a knife and physical force to restrain the victim, as well as his attempt to flee to New York City.
