Chicago Police Hunt Smash-and-Grab Crew Targeting West Side Stores

Authorities in Chicago are on the lookout for a smash-and-grab gang that has been using stolen cars to crash into storefronts on the West Side in a spree to steal sports apparel and other merchandise.

A surveillance video released by the police captures one of the burglars backing a car into a storefront in the early hours of November 10, causing extensive damage to glass and window frames. Subsequently, a white cargo van arrives at the scene, with seven masked culprits pouring out of the van and swiftly entering the store to grab as much as they can before making their escape.

According to investigators, the group has struck at least twice within two days, with incidents reported around 4:48 a.m. on November 9 in the 4000 block of West Madison Street and around 4 a.m. on November 10 in the 800 block of North Kedzie Avenue.

In both instances, the thieves used stolen cars to ram through locked entryways, gaining unauthorized access to the premises. Once inside, they targeted clothing, shoes, and various retail items before fleeing in another stolen vehicle before law enforcement could respond.

The suspects are described as Black males aged between 15 and 19 years, weighing 110 to 150 pounds, all dressed in black attire with black masks.

Individuals with any information regarding the crew or the burglaries are urged to contact Area Four detectives at 312-746-8253 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com, citing reference number P25-4-026.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the inaccuracies in information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage has since expanded to encompass Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas, while our core mission remains unchanged: to deliver original public safety reporting with deeper context and richer detail than mainstream media outlets.
