A recent incident at a Bronx subway station has left an on-duty MTA worker injured after a violent clash with a group of individuals. The 55-year-old employee was attacked by four suspects in the mezzanine of the Bruckner Boulevard and Hunts Point Avenue No. 6 train station in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

According to police, two male suspects punched the worker in the face multiple times before fleeing on foot. Two women who were with the men during the altercation escaped on a northbound No. 6 train. The worker sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

The NYPD has released images of the suspects involved in the assault. One of the men was described as wearing a white T-shirt, gray sweatpants, and white sneakers, while the other was seen in a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, and white and black sneakers. The women accompanying them were identified as wearing a black vest, white shirt, black pants, black and white sneakers, and a black jacket, blue shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers respectively.

This incident comes in the wake of other recent violent acts in the city’s subway system. Just days prior, a man pushed two individuals onto the subway tracks at the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station, and another man threw an object at an NYPD officer’s head at the Fordham Road station in the Bronx.

In response to the increase in transit crime, the NYPD has deployed additional officers into the subway system. Despite a rise in felony assaults, the department notes that the number of incidents has been trending downward in recent weeks. 26% of these assaults were against police officers, while 9% targeted MTA employees.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on the suspects involved in the attack on the MTA worker to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Information can also be provided through the Crimestoppers website or on social media @NYPDTips.

The safety and security of MTA workers and passengers remain a top priority for law enforcement agencies, and efforts are ongoing to address and prevent further incidents of violence in the city’s transit system.
