Virat Kohli, the batting star of Team India, was recently spotted leaving for Bengaluru from Mumbai international airport for the upcoming edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, set to begin on December 24. Kohli, dressed in a white shirt, black trousers, and white sport shoes, was captured before making his way into the airport. This tournament marks his return after a decade, with his last game in the Vijay Hazare Trophy dating back to February 18, 2010. In his previous 14 matches in the tournament, Kohli has scored 819 runs at an impressive average of 68.25, with a strike rate of 106.08, including four centuries and three fifties.
The former Indian skipper confirmed his availability to the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) and has been named in Delhi’s squad for the first two games alongside players like Rishabh Pant, Navdeep Saini, and Ishant Sharma. Kohli has been preparing for the 50-over tournament by engaging in practice sessions with net bowlers in Alibaug.
Despite facing some doubts over his form after two ducks in the Australia tour, Kohli bounced back with a brilliant unbeaten 74 in the final ODI of the series. He continued his fine form in the home series against South Africa, scoring 302 runs in three innings, including two centuries and winning the Player of the Series award as India clinched the series 2-1. The right-handed batsman will be looking to make an impact in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as Delhi takes on Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat on December 24 and 26 respectively.
Looking ahead, Kohli’s next assignment for India will be the ODI series against New Zealand starting on January 11. Currently ranked second in the ICC ODI rankings for batters, Kohli will be aiming to carry his recent good form into the upcoming series and further solidify his reputation as one of the best batsmen in the world.
