President Biden delivered a speech on Sunday, addressing the recent developments in Syria as rebel forces led by Abu Mohammed al-Jolani entered Damascus, resulting in the collapse of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
With the situation unfolding in Syria, President-elect Donald Trump has expressed his stance on US military involvement, emphasizing non-intervention and allowing the conflict to play out without American interference.
Reports indicated that Bashar al-Assad and his family fled Damascus, instructing the military to surrender and facilitate a peaceful transition of power to the radical Islamists.
Biden’s speech, lasting eight minutes, showcased moments of struggle as he stumbled through his remarks, attributing Assad’s departure to his administration’s actions and claiming that Iran, Hezbollah, and Russia are weaker today than when he took office.
Despite his efforts, Biden appeared to have difficulty reading from the teleprompter, displaying signs of fatigue and confusion during his address.
As he exited the room, Biden mentioned American hostage Austin Tice, stating that Assad should be held accountable, but faltering when asked if he had directed an operation to rescue Tice.
Meanwhile, President Trump announced reaching out to the Syrian regime to secure the release of journalist Austin Tice, who went missing in Syria in 2012. US officials have confirmed Tice’s continued captivity in Syria, sparking ongoing efforts to bring him home.
Investigations suggest that Tice is still being held in Syria, prompting renewed calls for his safe return.
