The Democratic Party’s misguided attempt to shut down the federal government is rippling through the political landscape, leading to some notable—if not embarrassing—consequences. The latest of which unfolded on Fox News.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, what some are calling the “Schumer Shutdown” struck at 12:01 AM on Wednesday after two crucial measures to prevent this debacle floundered in the Senate.
Both proposals required 60 votes for passage, but the GOP-backed initiative was shut down with a 55-45 tally—peculiarly, Rand Paul allied with Democrats on this occasion.
In a move many analysts deem a miscalculation, both the Democrats and Paul chose to prioritize health care for undocumented immigrants over keeping government operations afloat.
On Thursday, Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) graced the set of Fox and Friends in what appeared to be an attempt to mislead viewers into believing that Democrats oppose providing health care to those without legal status.
“I haven’t heard anyone in my party advocating for illegal immigrants to have access to the health insurance market!” Shaheen declared.
However, co-host Lawrence Jones was armed with an unexpected rebuttal: recorded statements from prominent Democrats affirming the opposite stance.
“I’m thrilled you mentioned that,” Jones responded, “because I have some footage of your fellow Democrats expressing exactly that on stage.”
With that, the studio played a clip from a June 2019 Democratic Presidential Primary Debate where every candidate raised their hands when moderator Savannah Guthrie posed the question of whether their health plans would include undocumented individuals.
