Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan faced a disappointing end to his Test career as he was dismissed for a duck in what could potentially be his final Test innings against India at Green Park in Kanpur. Shakib’s innings lasted only two deliveries before he was caught by Jadeja off his own bowling on Day 5 of the series finale on Tuesday, October 1.

The veteran all-rounder came in to bat after Litton Das’ dismissal in the 30th over, placed surprisingly low at No. 8 in the batting order. Tasked with salvaging the innings alongside Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib fell to a slower, fullish delivery as he tried to nudge the ball but ended up chipping it back to the bowler.

Shakib had earlier expressed his desire to retire from Tests on home soil during the upcoming series against South Africa. However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cited security concerns due to ongoing political tensions in the country, casting doubt on whether Shakib will get his farewell Test series.

Following Shakib’s dismissal, Bangladesh suffered a collapse from 91-3 to 94-7, with Jadeja accounting for three of those wickets. The visitors had shown promise with a partnership between skipper Najmul Shanto and Shadman Islam, but once the stand was broken, the wickets fell quickly.

With Shakib’s departure leaving Bangladesh on shaky ground, the team is now heavily reliant on Mehidy Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim to steady the ship. Bangladesh, currently at 118-7 after 36 overs, have a slim lead with more than two sessions remaining in the match.

In the first innings, Shakib was also unable to make an impact, falling for just 9 runs after a brilliant catch by Mohammed Siraj. As the team looks to build a competitive lead, the duo of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim are striving to guide Bangladesh through a challenging phase.

As the match unfolds, Bangladesh will be hoping for a resilient performance from their lower order to set a competitive target for India. The pressure is on as they look to make the most of their final opportunities in the series finale.
