Pundit Ian Wright has shared his thoughts on Arsenal’s recent 1-0 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League. This win allowed the Gunners to reclaim the top spot in the league standings after a challenging match against the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s team managed to secure a vital three points in the league but faced a tough challenge, barely holding on until the final whistle. Speaking to Premier League Productions after the match, Wright highlighted that Arsenal made things difficult for themselves and were fortunate to come away with the win.

“We don’t win comfortably; we make it difficult. But at this stage of the season, you just have to get it over the line. I think we done that today, we’re very fortunate we played a side in poor form. I’d be disappointed if I was a Newcastle fan. You take the win, I’m very happy to take it”, he said (via justarsenal.com).

Arsenal had won only one of their last six matches, a series that included two losses to rivals Manchester City and an FA Cup exit. This poor stretch allowed City to close the gap in the league standings, creating a tense atmosphere for the final weeks of the campaign.

Despite not being at their best, Arsenal managed to defeat the Magpies, handing Eddie Howe’s team their fifth consecutive loss. With a three-point lead in the standings, Arsenal now sits above Pep Guardiola’s side, although they have played one more game.

Arsenal claim nervy win over Newcastle to go top of PL

In a tight battle, Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Newcastle United, climbing back to the top of the Premier League standings and ending a streak of consecutive league losses. The victory in front of their home fans dislodged Manchester City from the top position.

Mikel Arteta largely retained the lineup that lost to City the previous weekend, and this choice paid off when Kai Havertz and Eberechi Eze combined for the game’s only goal. Havertz started a short corner, enabling Eze to strike cleanly into the top corner after just nine minutes.

Arsenal’s defense held firm, though they faced setbacks as Havertz and Eze were substituted due to physical issues. Goalkeeper David Raya was instrumental, making three crucial saves to secure his 16th league clean sheet of the season. Additionally, Bukayo Saka’s return from injury towards the end of the match provided a boost to their title aspirations.
