As the holiday season approaches, Air New Zealand predicts a busy summer with 2.7 million travelers flying in and out of New Zealand. The airline anticipates around 1.6 million passengers on its domestic network, with Queenstown, Nelson, and Dunedin being popular destinations in the South Island.

Internationally, approximately 1.1 million passengers will be traveling to and from New Zealand, with top destinations including Australia, Pacific Islands countries, and the US. The airline expects 56,000 passengers flying to or from Los Angeles.

Auckland Airport is gearing up for an estimated 2.5 million travelers passing through between December 8 and January 18, with a majority being international travelers. The airport advises travelers to plan ahead, arrive early, and pack smart for a smooth journey.

Wellington Airport expects nearly half a million travelers over the Christmas and New Year period, with the busiest day being Thursday, December 18. Live music and Christmas decorations add to the festive atmosphere.

Christchurch Airport has increased its capacity compared to last year, with popular destinations including Adelaide, Cairns, Gold Coast, and Fiji. Dunedin Airport anticipates around 150,000 passengers over the summer, with the airport’s chief executive looking forward to some well-deserved downtime.

Queenstown Airport will see around 150,000 passengers between December 20 and January 4, with a significant number heading to or from Australia. The airport encourages travelers to arrive early for a stress-free experience.

In preparation for the holiday season, airlines and airports recommend ensuring items with batteries are packed in carry-on luggage, arriving at the airport with plenty of time, and being prepared to remove laptops and liquids at security. Staying hydrated and checking in online are also suggested for a smoother travel experience.
