The Pirate Dinner: A Recap of Season 2, Episode 5 of "Landman"
In the latest episode of "Landman," titled "The Pirate Dinner," which premiered on Paramount+ on Sunday, Dec. 14, fans were treated to some unexpected twists and turns in Cooper Norris’s storyline.
Jacob Lofland, who plays Cooper, admits that one of the unique challenges he faced as an actor on the show was the constant mention of his character’s questionable hygiene. Cooper, who works in the oil fields, is often teased for smelling bad or needing a shower. Lofland recalls feeling self-conscious about it at times, wondering if show co-creator Taylor Sheridan was trying to send a message about his own hygiene. However, he attributes it to Cooper’s rough working conditions rather than any personal critique.
In this episode, Cooper’s impulsive nature takes center stage as he makes some life-changing decisions. Despite his father Tommy’s warnings about his new business partner Gallino, Cooper decides to sell his lucky-strike oil sites to his father’s company. Tommy, played by the legendary Billy Bob Thornton, also offers Cooper a job at M-Tex as a reward for his instincts.
However, Tommy is less successful in talking Cooper out of quickly marrying Ariana, played by Paulina Chavez, despite their complicated relationship. Lofland acknowledges that Cooper’s decisions may frustrate the audience, but believes they are essential to the character’s growth and development.
Working alongside Thornton has been a learning experience for Lofland, who admires the veteran actor’s professionalism and leadership on set. The addition of Sam Elliott as Cooper’s grandfather in this season only adds to the wealth of knowledge and experience that Lofland can draw from in his own acting journey.
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, Lofland teases that fans can expect even more surprises and unexpected twists in Cooper’s storyline. He hints at growth and development for his character, but also promises moments that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.
As "Landman" continues to captivate audiences with its compelling storytelling and talented cast, Lofland’s portrayal of Cooper Norris shines as a relatable and dynamic character navigating the challenges of life in the oil fields. Stay tuned for more exciting developments in Cooper’s journey as the season unfolds.
