Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have recently drawn the curtains on their nearly 20-year union. The question looms: what does life look like for the high-profile pair in this post-divorce chapter?
According to an exclusive source for Us Weekly, “Their routines weren’t disrupted during their marriage, and that’s not what drove them apart.” This begs the question of what actually did lead to this much-publicized split.
Both Urban, at age 57, and 58-year-old Kidman have opted to channel their energies into their professional pursuits. Urban’s current endeavor includes the High and Alive World Tour, which commenced in May, alongside his Las Vegas residency. He’s also collaborating with Gretchen Wilson and Blake Shelton on the CBS reality series The Road.
“He’s nonstop, always on the go,” the insider elaborates, “He’s been touring since June and was even in Australia during August.”
Meanwhile, Kidman expertly juggles numerous projects while maintaining a steadfast role in her children’s lives. The Oscar-winning actress, who shares two teenage daughters—Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14—with Urban, also has two older children, Isabella, 32, and Connor, 30, whom she adopted with her former husband Tom Cruise.
<p“A source close to her notes, Nicole has consistently mastered the art of balancing her prolific career with her children's needs,” the insider says. “She is at the pinnacle of success but remains committed to her family life—an accomplishment few can match in Hollywood.”
In the past few years, Kidman has starred in renowned productions like Big Little Lies (which has just been officially renewed for a third season), Nine Perfect Strangers, and The Perfect Couple. Her recent film appearances include 2024’s Babygirl and A Family Affair, while her movie Holland debuted earlier this year. She has also finished filming for Practical Magic 2 alongside Sandra Bullock.
Despite their success, it was the sheer busyness of Urban and Kidman’s lives that reportedly contributed to their separation. As per the source, they are “heading in two divergent paths.”
<p“Nicole made considerable efforts to salvage their union and was reluctant to share their struggles with even close friends,” the insider elaborated. “They had been spending more time apart because of work obligations, leading them to lead increasingly separate lives. Unfortunately, they weren’t on the same wavelength anymore.”
Us confirmed on September 29 that Kidman and Urban had officially separated after 19 years of marriage, which began in 2006 following a swift courtship.
The day after their split was revealed, Kidman promptly filed for divorce. Documents uncovered by Us indicate that she cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the separation, additionally requesting to be designated the “primary residential parent” for their daughters.
The filings also outlined a marital dissolution agreement finalized by both parties. This agreement encompassed parenting plans, provisions for child support, and a “parenting seminar order.” Kidman and Urban mutually agreed to retain ownership of their assets and waived any claims for spousal and child support. Remarkably, the divorce documents reveal Urban has already “prepaid all child support obligations.”
According to the court-ordered arrangement, Kidman will care for Sunday and Faith for 306 days per year, leaving the remaining 59 days for Urban, which includes alternating weekends. Moreover, both parents agreed to collaborative decision-making for their children’s major life choices, although, in scenarios of disagreement, Kidman will have the “final decision-making authority.”
