Artlogic’s In Conversation webinar series is dedicated to providing valuable insights and support to the art community. In a recent webinar, we had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Clare McAndrew (Art Economics), Daniel Cassady (ArtNews), and Wendy Olsoff (PPOW Gallery) to delve into the findings of the 2025 Art Basel & UBS Art Market Report.

If you missed the live session, you can watch the full webinar on demand to catch up on the discussion.

The annual Art Basel & UBS Art Market Report serves as a crucial barometer for the art industry, offering valuable insights for galleries and dealers navigating the dynamic and complex market landscape. Here are some key takeaways from our conversation:

1. Digital channels aren’t optional — they’re essential.

In 2024, online channels accounted for 33% of dealer sales, with the inclusion of art fair Online Viewing Rooms pushing the number to 37%. What’s noteworthy is that the majority of online sales took place through dealers’ own platforms, such as websites, email campaigns, and social media. This underscores the importance of investing in digital infrastructure to enhance adaptability, connectivity, and growth.

2. The high end slowed, but smaller galleries saw gains.

While overall dealer sales experienced a 6% decline, this was primarily driven by the highest segment of the market (over $10 million in turnover). In contrast, smaller galleries (under $250,000) witnessed significant growth. This trend reflects a shift towards more accessible price points and deeper collector relationships driving market activity. Utilizing a smart CRM tool to track and nurture client relationships is essential for galleries of all sizes to build resilience.

3. Costs are up — and smart choices matter.

Dealers highlighted rising costs as a major challenge, particularly in areas like shipping, travel, and art fair participation. As profitability takes precedence over sheer sales volume, making informed decisions on resource allocation is crucial. Implementing a gallery management tool like Artlogic can streamline operations, reduce administrative burdens, and enable galleries to focus on what truly matters — art and client relationships.

Looking ahead to the rest of 2025, the key takeaway is clear: Adaptability, focus, and leveraging the right tools will be essential for navigating the evolving art market landscape.
