WhatsApp Launches Parent-Managed Accounts – Tech Advisor

WhatsApp has recently announced the introduction of parent-managed accounts to enhance safety features for pre-teen children using the messaging platform. This new feature allows parents to create and control messaging accounts for their children, giving them the ability to manage who contacts their child, review message requests from unknown numbers, and control group participation through PIN-protected privacy settings.

To set up a parent-managed account, parents can create a new WhatsApp account for their child and link it to their own account. Once linked, parents will have exclusive access to privacy controls for their child’s account, including the ability to review message requests and set up a six-digit PIN number for added security. This feature is designed to address concerns about child safety on messaging platforms and is currently rolling out globally.

To create a parent-managed account, parents can simply select the option during the account set-up process by choosing “More options” and selecting “Create a parent-managed account.” The set-up process involves linking the child’s account to the parent’s account by scanning a QR code on the child’s device with the parent’s phone.

WhatsApp has been actively updating its platform in recent weeks, including the ability to share up to 100 recent messages with new group members and adding support for video and voice calls on its web app. Additionally, the company is planning to offer users a choice between viewing ads or subscribing to an ad-free experience in the near future.

Overall, the introduction of parent-managed accounts on WhatsApp is a step towards improving child safety on the platform and providing parents with greater control over their children’s messaging accounts. Keep an eye out for updates on your app store to access this new feature and ensure a safer messaging experience for your family.
