David Del Rio continues to receive unwavering support from his wife, Katherine Del Rio, following his termination from Matlock.
“His wife is standing by him,” friends close to the couple disclosed to Us Weekly. “They are committed as a family and are sticking together.”
Having been together for 12 years, David, 38, and Katherine are parents to two daughters: Lilia, aged 2, and Coco, who is 8 months old.
“Dooty calls,” David shared via Instagram on September 2, while holding Coco, who was adorably dressed in a onesie that indicated “two months.” (Katherine had earlier confirmed on her own Instagram post that Coco was born in January.)
The love story of David and Katherine kicked off when she witnessed him in the Broadway play In the Heights.
“At the conclusion, we waited for autographs, and my dad asked me, ‘Do you want a photo with the guy who played Sonny?’” Katherine recounted to Inside Edition back in March 2017, confessing she had a “little crush” on him.
Three years later, they crossed paths again at a party and soon started dating.
Beyond their romance, David made headlines on Thursday, October 9, when Us confirmed he had been removed from the Matlock cast following an internal investigation into sexual assault claims.
The father of two was abruptly let go after being implicated in an incident involving his co-star Leah Lewis, as reported by Deadline. (Us had also reached out for statements from David’s representatives and CBS.)
CBS was informed of the incident, prompting an immediate internal investigation. David was subsequently “fired and escorted off the lot the same day the alleged assault was reported [on October 2].”
Although filming for Matlock was paused when the news surfaced, it is expected to resume in November, following Thanksgiving, with David’s character likely to be written off, according to Deadline.
While David has not commented publicly on the unfolding situation, Katherine took to Instagram the same day of his firing to share a close-up photo of Lewis, writing, “This is the most disturbing human being I have ever met.” (She deleted the post within hours.)
Leah Lewis spoke out following the event by sharing a photo of her mother on set.
“Mom is here, we’re moving forward in love and strength. I’m in good hands,” she stated in her Instagram Story on Thursday. “Thank you to everyone for your support and care. Truly, we’re moving forward in strength. Key word: strength. Let that be the takeaway.”
Prior to these events, David and Lewis, who portrayed first-year associates at the fictional Jacobson Moore law firm in the CBS series, had complimentary things to say about each other.
“David Del Rio, who plays Billy, who is essentially my counterpart, I’ve learned so much about comedy from him,” praised Lewis in an exclusive interview with Us in September 2024. “He has a theater background, which means we’re constantly twinkling and dancing around the set.”
In a 2024 discussion with Hello!, David reflected on being invited to read for several roles, mentioning, “Leah Lewis got the part, and that was my call. I voted for her.”
