Where is Nvidia? Chinese rivals take the limelight at major AI event

Huawei, the Chinese telecoms giant, made a significant appearance at the World AI Conference in Shanghai on July 26, 2025, showcasing its Ascend chips and system designed for powering artificial intelligence models. In stark contrast, Nvidia, a leading U.S. chipmaker, was noticeably absent from the event, despite recent speculation about potentially resuming chip sales to China.

At the conference, Huawei unveiled its Atlas 900 A3 SuperPoD, a computing system that integrates 384 Ascend chips to enhance AI model training and utilization. While Nvidia’s most advanced Blackwell chip may surpass the individual power of a single Ascend chip, Huawei’s system compensates for this by incorporating a larger number of chips. However, efficiency remains a concern as Huawei’s system consumes significantly more power than Nvidia’s counterpart.

In addition to Huawei, other Chinese players in the advanced chip supply chain, such as Moore Threads and Yunsilicon, also showcased their innovations at the expo. The event featured a diverse range of exhibitors, from startups to tech giants like Tencent and Alibaba, demonstrating AI applications in robotics, smart glasses, and translation apps. This diverse representation underscored China’s growing self-sufficiency in the AI sector.

Nvidia, which had to halt sales to China earlier due to U.S. export restrictions, is now navigating a complex landscape of geopolitical tensions. While the company has hinted at resuming sales of its H20 chips to China, the specifics and timeline remain unclear. Despite these challenges, Nvidia continues to be a prominent player in AI GPU development, with its flagship products maintaining a strong presence in the market.

The conference also highlighted the evolving dynamics of global AI cooperation, with Chinese Premier Li Qiang announcing plans for a global AI organization headquartered in Shanghai. This announcement aligns with China’s efforts to promote its AI standards internationally, in contrast to the U.S.’s recent initiatives to address bias in AI models and expand tech deployment overseas.

As the AI landscape continues to evolve, companies like Huawei and Nvidia are straddling tech tensions and navigating complex geopolitical dynamics to maintain their positions in the competitive AI market. The World AI Conference served as a platform for showcasing the latest advancements in AI technology and highlighting the diverse contributions of players across the global AI ecosystem. Artificial intelligence (AI) has become an increasingly important tool in various industries, as it continues to revolutionize the way we live and work. From self-driving cars to virtual assistants, AI technology is rapidly evolving and transforming our world.

One of the key areas where AI is making a significant impact is in healthcare. AI has the potential to improve patient outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and streamline processes in the healthcare industry.

One of the main benefits of AI in healthcare is its ability to analyze large amounts of data quickly and accurately. This allows healthcare providers to make more informed decisions when diagnosing and treating patients. AI algorithms can sift through vast amounts of medical records, lab results, and other data to identify patterns and trends that may not be immediately apparent to human healthcare providers.

AI also has the potential to improve patient care by providing personalized treatment plans based on an individual’s unique health data. By analyzing a patient’s genetic information, medical history, and lifestyle factors, AI can help doctors develop targeted treatment plans that are more effective and tailored to the patient’s specific needs.

In addition to improving patient care, AI can also help healthcare providers streamline administrative tasks and reduce costs. AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can handle routine patient inquiries, schedule appointments, and provide information on healthcare services, freeing up healthcare staff to focus on more complex tasks.

AI technology is also being used to develop innovative medical devices and treatments. For example, AI-powered imaging systems can help doctors detect diseases such as cancer at an earlier stage, leading to better treatment outcomes. AI algorithms can also be used to analyze drug interactions and predict how a patient will respond to a particular medication, helping doctors prescribe the most effective treatments.

Despite the many benefits of AI in healthcare, there are some challenges that need to be addressed. One of the main concerns is the potential for bias in AI algorithms, which can lead to inaccurate or unfair outcomes. It is important for developers to ensure that AI systems are trained on diverse and representative data to avoid bias and ensure that they are ethically sound.

Overall, AI has the potential to revolutionize healthcare by improving patient outcomes, reducing costs, and streamlining processes. As the technology continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how AI is further integrated into the healthcare industry to benefit patients and providers alike.
