Filming for “Hamnet” took place in various locations across the UK from July to September 2024. While originally planned to start in London, the production kicked off in Wales before moving to historic sites throughout the UK. Herefordshire, England, played a significant role in the filming, providing the perfect backdrop for the period outdoor scenes depicted in the film.
The production team utilized the picturesque countryside of Herefordshire to recreate the late 1500s setting of the Shakespeare family. Additionally, filming took place in London, with the Charterhouse standing out as a prominent location for the production. The historic building was transformed to capture the essence of Elizabethan interiors, adding to the authenticity of the film.
Supported by Hera Pictures and Neal Street Productions, “Hamnet” welcomed renowned producer Steven Spielberg to the team. The film’s visual aesthetics were brought to life by director of photography Łukasz Żal, while Max Richter composed the film’s musical score.
