The year 2026 marks a significant time for television, with various shows confirmed to return for additional seasons. Paramount+ has taken a bold step by renewing Landman for a third season even before the second season concluded. Drawing inspiration from the “Boomtown” podcast series, Landman delves into the complexities of the West Texas oil industry, focusing on crisis executive Tommy Norris and his family. Debuting in 2024, the Paramount+ series introduced Billy Bob Thornton as a corporate fixer working for an oil magnate.
The second season, which launched in October, set viewership milestones for Paramount+ by garnering over 9.2 million streams for its premiere episode within the first two days on the platform. This surge in viewership from the first season premiere made it the most watched debut for any original series on Paramount+.
Another show, Boston Blue on CBS, is also set for more development. In December 2025, the network confirmed that the Blue Bloods spinoff Boston Blue and the Fire Country spinoff Sheriff Country would both return for a second season.
The midseason schedule for 2026 is packed, but when will your favorite show return? On ABC, Grey’s Anatomy will return after the season 22 fall finale, which concluded with Jo’s (Camilla Luddington) premature emergency C-section. Jo’s fate remained uncertain, with the trailer for the rest of the season hinting at a potential loss.
“Two new shows on Friday night have quickly become favorites with audiences embracing Boston Blue and Sheriff Country on both broadcast and streaming,” said CBS Entertainment’s Amy Reisenbach in a statement. “These early renewals highlight the strength of character-driven storytelling, engaging narratives, and the extraordinary talent both in front and behind the camera, making these series exceptional.”
A press release indicates that Sheriff Country has averaged 7.6 million viewers and consistently leads its time slot on Friday nights at 8 p.m. Meanwhile, Blue Bloods has drawn 8 million viewers and dominated every Friday night in total viewership.
