The White House criticized Chicago’s mayor, labeling him as “disturbing” for his stance that protects “criminals” and “dangerous individuals” after he imposed restrictions on ICE agents in city-owned areas.

“Brandon Johnson has just enacted an executive order establishing ‘ICE Free Zones’, effectively blocking ICE operations on municipal properties,” the White House’s X account, Rapid Response 47, stated on Monday morning.

“This is APPALLING. He is enabling and supporting illegal immigrant murderers, rapists, traffickers, and gang members,” the post continued.

This sharp critique followed Johnson’s announcement of an executive order that restricts federal immigration officials from utilizing city property like parking areas—this was prompted by recent news of President Trump’s decision to send approximately 400 National Guard troops to Chicago.

Johnson’s directive seeks to hinder immigration enforcement efforts by preventing federal agents from conducting operations on city grounds.

“Our school parking lots are not designated for ICE to mobilize their weapons,” Johnson stated.

“Our public libraries are not venues for ICE to plan a raid,” he expressed. “Our parks should not be used by ICE to establish checkpoints.”
