The Vancouver Whitecaps were forced to cancel training after several players and staff members fell ill with gastrointestinal symptoms following their loss to Cruz Azul in the Concacaf Champions Cup in Mexico. This unfortunate incident also affected the Whitecaps players who are part of the Canadian national team, leading coach Jesse Marsch to express concern for their well-being.

Three Whitecaps players, Ali Ahmed, Sam Adekube, and Jayden Nelson, were unable to participate in training due to the illness. Although they have since recovered, Marsch stated that they may not be fit for a full 90-minute match in the upcoming friendly against Ukraine.

Marsch raised alarm over the recurring issue of MLS teams experiencing food poisoning during important matches in Mexico. He highlighted a similar incident involving the Columbus Crew in the previous year’s final, emphasizing the need for better protection for players in such environments.
