Donald Trump is facing a critical decision on whether to launch air strikes on Iran, amidst a period of upheaval in his foreign policy team. The recent dismissal of national security adviser Mike Waltz has left the President seeking guidance from various sources, including conservative media outlets like Fox News.

In the Oval Office, Trump is turning to a select group of advisers to help him navigate this decision. Among them are JD Vance and Marco Rubio, both potential successors to the President, as well as property developer Steve Witkoff and CIA director John Ratcliffe. Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, also plays a role in the discussions.

JD Vance, the vice-president and a contender for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, has shifted his stance on US military interventionism and is now considering the possibility of attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities. Marco Rubio, the former Florida senator and current national security adviser, is working closely with foreign ministers to keep them informed of Trump’s changing views on Iran.

Steve Witkoff, a New York property developer-turned-envoy, is leading negotiations on sensitive international issues, including talks with Iran’s foreign minister. John Ratcliffe, the CIA chief and a known Iran hawk, has been providing alarming assessments of Tehran’s nuclear ambitions to Trump.

General Michael Kurilla, a key figure in US military operations in the Middle East, is influential in shaping Trump’s thinking on Iran. Mike Huckabee, the US ambassador to Israel, is urging Trump to take action against Iran’s nuclear program.

In contrast, Pete Hegseth, the defense secretary, is facing challenges in his role after posting sensitive information about military operations. General Dan Caine, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, is known for his loyalty to Trump and is advising the President on potential military actions.

Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic congresswoman and current director of national intelligence, has become a Trump ally but has faced criticism from the administration for her views on Iran’s nuclear program.

As Trump weighs his options on Iran, he is surrounded by a mix of advisers with varying perspectives. The decision he makes will have significant implications for US foreign policy and relations with Iran.
