James Tupper has made headlines recently due to his association with a well-known friend.
On October 1, 2025, the actor from Big Little Lies was spotted dining with Lori Loughlin at The Bird Streets Club in West Hollywood.
This outing occurred just a day before the announcement that Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli had parted ways after nearly 28 years together.
Following the dinner, Loughlin’s representative clarified to Us Weekly, “Lori and James are old friends who have collaborated in the past.”
However, this encounter ignited curiosity about the Canadian actor who has shared a long friendship with Loughlin. Continue reading to discover more about Tupper, who embodies more than just a thriving acting career:
James Tupper Collaborated with Lori Loughlin
Tupper and Loughlin previously acted together in 2023 through two Great American Family films.
Their first collaboration was in Fall Into Winter, which depicted Kerrie (Loughlin) working alongside her rival, Brooks (Tupper), a co-owner of her family’s candy shop.
Later that year, the two reunited for the holiday film A Christmas Blessing.
“For a lighter heart this evening, join us for #GAC as we present a charming film about friendship, overcoming bad luck, and generosity,” Tupper shared via Instagram in November 2023, shortly before Thanksgiving. “@jesse_hutch #loriloughlin wishing everyone an early merry Christmas 🎄.”
James Tupper Hails from Canada
Before achieving fame in Hollywood, Tupper was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, where he spent much of his childhood enjoying nature’s beauty.
“The vast openness and the bond with the ocean define Nova Scotia,” he revealed to Concordia University in July 2025. “It was a remarkable environment for a young dreamer to connect with the earth.”
His upbringing also faced personal hardships, including losing his mother at a young age. This experience developed his resilience and empathy, shaping his journey as an actor.
James Tupper: A Passion for Theater
While audiences may recognize Tupper from popular television series like Big Little Lies, Revenge, and Mercy, he has also thrived in the world of theater with various stage performances and off-Broadway shows.
“Film caters to directors, and television focuses on writers. The stage is where actors truly shine,” Tupper expressed in an interview with Broadway World in December 2024 prior to his LA performance in The Seagull. “It’s the most challenging yet gratifying sector of acting.”
He still dreams of performing in a Broadway production someday.
“While it’s uncertain if that will materialize, the allure of winning a Tony while celebrating with icons like Jessica Lange in a tuxedo is simply awe-inspiring,” he remarked.
James Tupper Had a Long Relationship with Anne Heche
Tupper and Heche crossed paths in 2006 while filming Men in Trees. Their relationship blossomed, leading to a decade-long romance that lasted from 2007 to 2018.
During their time together, they became parents to their son, Atlas, born in March 2009.
Heche tragically passed away in August 2022 due to a car accident in Los Angeles, leaving Atlas just 13 years old when he lost his mother.
