The 2026 Academy Awards are fast approaching, and this year’s race is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in recent memory. With several categories too close to call, it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top on Hollywood’s biggest night.

In the category of Best Picture, the front-runner appears to be “Sinners,” the vampire saga directed by Ryan Coogler. The film has been gaining momentum, going head-to-head with “One Battle After Another,” directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. While Anderson’s epic has been sweeping up awards at various ceremonies, “Sinners” has been a surprising underdog, reminiscent of the last-minute victory of “Parasite” in 2020. Both films are deserving, but the resurgence of “Sinners” has injected some much-needed excitement into the awards season.

However, one notable absence from the Best Picture lineup is Kaouther Ben Hania’s “The Voice of Hind Rajab.” This powerful and poignant film tackles important themes and would have been a worthy contender for the top prize.

Moving on to the Best Director category, Paul Thomas Anderson is the predicted winner for “One Battle After Another.” Despite not being his personal favorite film, Anderson’s body of work speaks for itself, and many believe it’s high time he received this accolade. Jafar Panahi’s “It Was Just an Accident” is a notable snub in this category, with the Iranian director’s unique and impactful storytelling deserving recognition.

In the Best Actress category, Jessie Buckley is the frontrunner for her role in “Hamnet.” Buckley’s performance has garnered praise, making her a likely winner on Oscar night. However, Chase Infiniti’s performance in “One Battle After Another” is a notable absence from the nominees, with many feeling she deserved a spot among the contenders.

As the anticipation builds for the 2026 Oscars, it’s clear that this year’s awards race is filled with surprises and tight competition. With so many deserving films and performances vying for recognition, it’s anyone’s guess who will come out on top on the big night. Stay tuned for all the excitement and drama as Hollywood’s finest gather to celebrate the best in film.
