While President Donald Trump has not yet attended any World Cup games, his administration has been present at all three U.S. matches.
Lee Zeldin, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, attended the game in Inglewood. Zeldin has had disputes with California officials over various issues, including endangered species protections and clean-air regulations, while also working on solutions for cross-border sewage pollution between Mexico and California.
Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, who has occasionally acted as a mediator between the White House and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the challenging U.S. efforts to negotiate peace between Russia and Ukraine, is also present at SoFi Stadium. Driscoll, who maintains close ties with Vice President JD Vance, has been called Trump’s “drone guy.”
Also in Los Angeles tonight is Richard Grenell, known for his role as Trump’s outspoken envoy to Germany during the president’s first term.
Although Grenell’s allies sought a prominent position for him in Trump’s second administration, he did not secure a Cabinet-level role and was instead appointed as the special presidential envoy for special missions of the United States.
