For six seasons, the LA Angels featured two of MLB’s top talents, Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout, both of whom secured the AL MVP award during their tenure.
Despite their exceptional skills, the team failed to reach the playoffs while the duo played together in Anaheim.
On Wednesday’s “Baseball Today” episode, insider and content creator Sarah Wilson, also known as “Swilly” on social media, provided her insights into the franchise’s struggles.

Wilson attributed much of the team’s woes to owner Arte Moreno.
“At the end of the day, it’s always going to be me pointing the owner at the owner of our team, Arte Moreno,” Wilson said (Timestamp: 12:53). “He took over the team in 2003, ran the farm system dry, and has just really signed big names and that’s about it.
“It takes more than two people on a baseball team to do anything super significant. We don’t address all the other big needs that we have. Arte runs a baseball team in not a modern way. I wish that they won together, but the people in the front office didn’t make it happen.”
Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout could face off at the 2026 All-Star game
The top players in MLB will showcase their talents on July 14 at the 2026 All-Star Game, set to be held at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout are having impressive seasons, and there’s a chance they could compete against each other at this prestigious event. Voting has officially begun, and both players are expected to be selected for the mid-season classic.

Ohtani boasts a .296 batting average with 15 home runs and 42 RBIs, alongside a pitching ERA of 1.47. In contrast, Trout is hitting .234 with 17 home runs and 36 RBIs.
