Charlie Woods, the 17-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, has made a surprising decision in his college journey by choosing Florida State University over his dad’s alma mater, Stanford University. This unexpected choice has raised eyebrows among fans and followers of the Woods family.
Currently attending the Benjamin School, Charlie is set to graduate in the spring of 2027. Despite being ranked 21st in the American Junior Golf Association rankings, he has opted for a different path from his sister, Sam, who is enrolled at Stanford University.
In a recent Instagram post, Charlie announced his commitment to play golf at Florida State University, expressing his excitement to join the Seminoles. While the reason behind this decision remains undisclosed, one speculation is the proximity of FSU to the Woods family’s residence in Jupiter, Florida.
Notably, Seminoles head coach Trey Jones has been closely monitoring Charlie’s progress at the Benjamin School, especially during their recent victory at the FHSAA Class 1A. This move aligns with the Seminoles’ recruitment strategy, as they secured the commitment of the top-ranked junior, Miles Russell, earlier in June.
Despite his young age, Charlie has already shown promise in amateur golf, clinching his first title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational and achieving a top-ten finish at the Boys’ Junior PGA Championship. While he has often teamed up with his father, Tiger Woods, at the PNC Championship, the young golfer missed the last edition as his father continues to recover from multiple surgeries.
In terms of recent performance, Charlie’s results in various events have been mixed, with notable finishes in tournaments like the Boy’s Junior PGA Championship and the Team TaylorMade Invitational. His journey in the golfing world is closely watched by fans and experts alike, as he aims to carve out his own legacy separate from his famous father.
As Charlie Woods embarks on his collegiate golfing career at Florida State University, the golfing community eagerly anticipates his future achievements and contributions to the sport. With the guidance of experienced coaches and the support of his family, Charlie is poised to make a name for himself in the competitive world of golf.
