India’s cricket team faced Afghanistan in the opening match of their ODI series without their leading fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. The game took place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday, June 13.
The absence of Bumrah, a crucial player for India in all formats, sparked curiosity among fans. He has been rested for the three-match series to manage his workload effectively.
Bumrah was also absent from the recently concluded one-off Test between India and Afghanistan. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained Bumrah’s absence, stating to the media:
“Bumrah will be back when we tour England. He is working on his workload.”
In addition, Bumrah is set to miss India’s upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England. It remains uncertain whether he will participate in the ODI segment of the England tour.
In the match, India won the toss and chose to field first. Due to rain, the toss was delayed, and the game was reduced to 25 overs per side. Here are the line-ups for both teams:
AFG: Ibrahim Zadran, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi(c), Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alikhil(w), Rashid Khan, Mohammad Saleem Safi, AM Ghazanfar, Zia Ur Rahman Sharifi
IND: Shubman Gill(c), Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan(w), Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harsh Dubey, Gurnoor Brar, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna
Jasprit Bumrah’s Struggles in IPL 2026
Jasprit Bumrah last played in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, where he faced challenges in regaining his top form. The Mumbai Indians (MI) player had a tough campaign.
He managed to claim just four wickets in 13 matches, with an economy rate of 8.36 and an average of 102.50. Bumrah’s underwhelming performance contributed to MI’s early exit from the league, finishing ninth in the standings with four wins out of 14 matches.
