The 600-Acre Wildfire near Moffat County Coal Mine Fully Contained
The wildfire that ignited near a coal mine in Moffat County on Friday has been completely contained as confirmed by sheriff’s officials on Saturday night.
Firefighters are still keeping a close eye on the burn area to ensure no hot spots reignite, as mentioned in a news release from the Moffat County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire broke out near the Colowyo Mine along Colorado 13, scorching approximately 585 acres between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening, covering an area larger than 440 football fields.
Additionally, the blaze led to the closure of the state highway connecting Meeker and Craig for several hours on Friday.
Although the fire has been contained, the cause behind its ignition remains unknown.
