Willie van Rooyen, known as South Africa’s ‘White Lion,’ proved his mettle in a thrilling comeback victory against Jeremy Miado at ONE Fight Night 41. After a disappointing debut in ONE Championship, the 23-year-old fighter showcased his resilience and determination in a three-round flyweight MMA battle on March 13.

In the initial round, Miado dominated the fight, landing powerful strikes and preventing van Rooyen from executing his game plan. However, after receiving some valuable advice from his father in the corner, van Rooyen came out rejuvenated in Round 2.

The ‘White Lion’ displayed exceptional footwork and technical prowess, confusing Miado with his switch-hitting and precise strikes. With a stiff jab and punishing calf kicks, van Rooyen gained control of the fight and delivered a devastating head kick that shifted the momentum in his favor.

Round 3 saw van Rooyen completely dominating the bout. Miado struggled to find an answer to his opponent’s calculated combinations as the South African fighter landed precise counterstrikes. A four-punch combination from van Rooyen dropped Miado, leading to a flurry of ground and pound that forced the referee to step in and stop the fight.

In a spectacular finish, Willie van Rooyen secured a TKO victory over Jeremy Miado at 3:35 of Round 3, marking his first win in ONE Championship and improving his record to 8-1. This impressive comeback win showcased van Rooyen’s heart and determination, proving that he belongs among the elite in the promotion’s flyweight division.

The victory solidifies van Rooyen’s position on the global stage and establishes him as a formidable force in the stacked flyweight MMA ranks of ONE Championship. With his skill, resilience, and fighting spirit on full display, ‘White Lion’ has cemented his place as a rising star in the world of mixed martial arts.
