A remarkable double-century from Justin Greaves has resulted in a historic draw for the West Indies in the initial cricket test against the Black Caps in Christchurch.

The Windies pulled off a stunning fourth-innings comeback in their pursuit of 531 runs, achieving a world record score of 457/6.

Greaves reached his 200-run milestone after facing 387 balls in an exceptional innings, supported by Shai Hopes’ 140 and Kemar Roach’s undefeated 58. The visitors managed to hold on to four wickets, denying the Kiwis victory.

Due to injuries, both Nathan Smith and Matt Henry were unable to bowl for New Zealand on the final day, putting the pressure on Jacob Duffy, Michael Bracewell, and Zak Foulkes to deliver the overs.

Hopes’ impressive century was halted at 140 when wicketkeeper Tom Latham took a remarkable catch off Foulks’ bowling, seemingly crushing West Indies’ chances of a miraculous comeback on day five.

Despite the setback, Roach and Greaves built an extraordinary partnership after Tevin Imlach’s departure for four runs.

The second test of the three-match series is set to commence in Wellington on Wednesday.
