A woman was shot Tuesday afternoon during an altercation outside a Wingstop restaurant in the South Loop, according to Chicago police.

Officers in the area heard gunfire around 1:25 p.m. and found the injured woman inside the restaurant at 500 West Roosevelt Road. Police said the woman, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, had been arguing with another woman outside the business when the confrontation escalated. The other woman pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The victim was struck in the right knee and right calf. Officers applied a tourniquet at the scene to reduce blood loss before paramedics took her to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.

Witnesses told police the shooter fled in a black Toyota SUV, which may have driven north on Canal Street after the attack.

No one is in custody as of Wednesday morning. Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.

Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
