A WWE icon recently shared that a wardrobe malfunction resulted in a sudden change to his ring attire. This revelation came through a response to a fan on social media.
Significant sums are invested in creating custom ring gear for wrestlers, designed to make them stand out on television. Fans often remember every detail of these iconic outfits. However, unexpected wardrobe malfunctions can force wrestlers to make swift, unscripted changes just before live broadcasts. A single tear can ruin an entire look, necessitating quick fixes. Such an incident occurred with Matt Hardy.
Thanks for the submission!
A fan took to X to point out that, while watching the April 24, 2009, episode of Friday Night SmackDown, they noticed an unusual, sticker-like lettering on the back of Matt Hardy’s tights. The observer noted that the lettering was conspicuous and had not been seen on his gear in the preceding weeks. Hardy promptly responded to clarify the situation.
He explained that the patch was a temporary solution, used to cover a substantial tear that had occurred during an untelevised live event the night before.
“It was there to cover up a massive tear/rip in my tights that occurred the night before on a live event. Had a new black pair made the following week (as well as the purple & blue ones) to replace the damaged one,” Hardy replied to the fan’s post.

While the temporary fix didn’t last, Hardy confirmed that he had new gear made to address the issue permanently. He mentioned that a brand-new black pair was created the next week to replace the damaged tights, alongside the introduction of his notable purple and blue variants.
WWE Legend Matt Hardy Revealed The New Day’s Pitch Before Their Exit
The departure of The New Day from WWE in May signaled the end of one of the company’s most successful groups.
During an appearance on the Battleground Podcast, Matt Hardy disclosed a missed opportunity for a WWE dream match between The Hardy Boyz and The New Day.
According to Matt, he and Jeff Hardy made surprise appearances on NXT during a talent exchange between WWE and TNA Wrestling. During this time, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods proposed the idea of having a program with The Hardy Boyz on weekly television.
“I’m not going to lie, when we started going back and forth with WWE and we worked some NXT and were NXT Tag Team Champions for a little while, The New Day had reached out and asked us about having a match on WWE programming and doing a little program with them. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite work out. There’s a lot of interest for the teams to face. So, we shall see,” Hardy said.
Whether this dream match between the two legendary teams will happen in the future remains uncertain.
