Xiaomi has officially launched two new smartphones as part of its mid-cycle upgrade series: the Xiaomi 15T Pro and the more budget-friendly Xiaomi 15T.
With the flagship Xiaomi 17 expected to be announced in China later this month, the 15T line brings significant enhancements that are bound to excite fans searching for a new mid-range phone.
A standout feature in this release is the new Leica 5x telephoto lens integrated into the Xiaomi 15T Pro, elevating its photography capabilities to rival flagship devices, particularly for capturing intricate details from afar.
The standard Xiaomi 15T, while not featuring the upgraded telephoto lens, does benefit from a more efficient 50MP main camera. This unit, dubbed the Leica Summilux optical lens, sports a wider f/1.7 aperture, allowing for better light capture.
When it comes to display and battery life, both models showcase an impressive level of similarity, making them appealing upgrades for users of older Xiaomi phones.
The new 6.83-inch display provides a significant improvement, with a peak brightness of 3200 nits to ensure excellent visibility in outdoor conditions. Furthermore, they also feature 3840Hz PWM dimming, which is beneficial for reducing eye strain.
Gamers may prefer the 15T Pro, which boasts a higher 144Hz refresh rate, compared to the standard 15T’s 120Hz refresh rate, providing a smoother gaming experience.
Battery life enhancements are evident as well, with both devices now featuring a robust 5500mAh cell. Users have reported achieving up to two days of usage with both models. There are, however, slight distinctions in charging capabilities: while the Xiaomi 15T supports 67W HyperCharge technology, the Pro variant takes it a step further with 90W wired fast charging, along with 50W wireless charging—note that chargers are not included in the box.
The devices run on MediaTek chipsets, with the Xiaomi 15T utilizing the Dimensity 8400-Ultra, and the 15T Pro powered by the more advanced Dimensity 9400+ chipset. Initial reviews suggest that the 15T offers seamless performance for daily tasks, while the 15T Pro excels in handling demanding applications with ease.
Another interesting feature introduced is an upgrade aimed to compete with Apple’s Emergency SOS capability: the Xiaomi Astral Communication. This feature is designed to assist users in remote areas lacking cellular service by utilizing long-range Bluetooth to connect with other Xiaomi 15T devices to facilitate voice calls.

While this concept holds promise, its current limitation to connecting solely between Xiaomi 15T devices may hinder broader applicability. Future expansions to include additional Xiaomi models would be welcomed.
Although official pricing for both models has not yet been announced, we anticipate that it will be in the same range as last year’s Xiaomi 14T and 14T Pro (around £549 and £649), as Xiaomi typically aims to keep its pricing competitive, especially when preparing for the impending launch of the Xiaomi 17 series.
