BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

As we embark on the year 2026, we find ourselves on the precipice of a monumental celebration: 250 years of American freedom and independence. A quarter of a millennium ago, the seeds of a new nation were sown in Philadelphia as delegates to the Second Continental Congress boldly declared our independence on July 4, 1776. It was a moment that fused centuries of wisdom and cultural evolution into a proclamation that asserted the intrinsic equality of all individuals and the sanctity of their rights.

This year, as we reflect on the profound implications of that fateful day, it is crucial to recognize that the signing of the Declaration of Independence was not just a political act; it was a revolutionary commitment to the ideals of liberty, justice, and the pursuit of happiness that have shaped not only our nation but the course of human history.

America stands apart from other nations, rooted in the belief that every individual is “endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” This conviction, enshrined in our founding documents, has served as the foundation for our government and a beacon of hope for countless others around the globe. For 250 years, the torch of liberty has been passed through generations, illuminating paths that our Founding Fathers could scarcely envision.

As we honor the legacy of figures like George Washington, John Adams, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin—who collectively ignited the flame of freedom in 1776—we are called to seek blessings for our nation, to safeguard our collective well-being, and to pursue the common good for all Americans.

This year, we celebrate the unyielding spirit of pioneers, patriots, visionaries, and everyday heroes whose steadfast dedication to the promise of freedom has cultivated the greatest Republic in history. I urge every American to join in this year-long celebration, renewing our commitment to the sacred values of liberty and justice for all.

The scriptures remind us, “In all circumstances give thanks.” Thus, it is appropriate that we designate this significant year as a time for celebrating our rich history, expressing gratitude for our many blessings, and uniting as one nation under God. From our earliest days, reflection and thanksgiving have been integral to our identity and destiny.

In the lead-up to our independence, the Second Continental Congress proclaimed a day of “fasting, humiliation and prayer,” beseeching divine guidance and forgiveness as they sought peace and freedom for America. Even during the Revolutionary War, the Congress emphasized the importance of recognizing the divine providence that has shaped our journey.

In the heat of summer 1776, our ancestors chose to break free from tyranny, drafting the Declaration of Independence, and overcoming challenges to establish an unparalleled Republic. It was this unwavering courage and faith that inspired Paul Revere’s midnight ride, propelled General Washington through the trials at Valley Forge, and motivated countless individuals to sacrifice for the liberty we cherish today. The same spirit continues to inspire new generations of Americans to aspire and achieve.

When the Continental Congress voted for independence, General Washington reminded his troops that “the fate of unborn Millions will now depend, under God, on the Courage and Conduct of this army.” Today, we too invoke this spirit, praying for the continued guidance of providence and the enduring flame of freedom to shine brightly in every American heart. We aspire for the truths enshrined in our Declaration of Independence to resonate more vividly than ever before.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim 2026 as a Year of Celebration and Rededication. I invite every American to reflect on and celebrate the wisdom and sacrifices of our Founding Fathers that made the miracle of America possible. I encourage parents to impart the inspiring history, heritage, and values of our nation to their children. I extend an invitation to the world to experience the beauty, warmth, and hospitality that America has to offer. Let us all—businesses, churches, families, and the military—observe this year with appropriate programs, ceremonies, concerts, and celebrations in our homes, schools, workplaces, communities, military bases, and places of worship.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this

twenty-ninth day of January, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-six, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.

DONALD J. TRUMP
