Movistar Plus+ and Sony Pictures Entertainment Extend Partnership

Movistar Plus+ and Sony Pictures Entertainment have announced the renewal of their longstanding partnership, guaranteeing Spanish audiences continued access to Sony’s theatrical films and television content. This partnership includes exclusive rights in the Pay 1 window, solidifying Movistar Plus+ as the premier destination for Sony Pictures content in Spain.

Under the new agreement, Movistar Plus+ will remain the exclusive Pay 1 home for Sony Pictures films in Spain after their theatrical and home entertainment releases. Upcoming titles that will be available to audiences include “28 Years Later,” “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and “Karate Kid: Legends.”

In addition to new releases, the deal also encompasses Sony’s extensive catalogue of blockbuster franchises such as “Spider-Man,” “Ghostbusters,” “Jumanji,” and “Men in Black.” Critically acclaimed films like “Whiplash,” “Little Women,” and “Call Me by Your Name” will also be part of the offering, alongside timeless classics like “The Bridge on the River Kwai” and “Kramer vs. Kramer.”

Movistar Plus+ will continue to carry Sony’s AXN channel in its linear lineup, as well as reintroducing AXN Movies, a channel dedicated to blockbuster films. AXN, known for hit series like “The Good Doctor” and “Criminal Minds,” has been a staple in Spain for over 25 years.

Under the on-demand component of the agreement, subscribers will have access to over 100 full series via AXN Now, including popular shows like “Damages” and “The Shield,” as well as Sony Pictures Television originals such as “Twisted Metal” and “High Country.”

Mark Young, executive VP of distribution and networks at Sony Pictures Television, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “We have a slate of feature and television titles that we are extremely proud of, and we can’t wait for audiences in Spain to enjoy them following their theatrical window.”

Daniel Domenjó, CEO of Movistar Plus+, highlighted the importance of the partnership, saying, “This agreement with Sony Pictures Entertainment solidifies Movistar Plus+ as the home of cinema in Spain. We aim to provide the best film offering in Spain and showcase the biggest international titles first.”
