Tragic Shooting Incident at North Carolina Restaurant Claims Lives

In a horrific event that shocked the Southport community, three individuals lost their lives, and eight others sustained injuries when a gunman unleashed a barrage of gunfire from a passing boat into a bustling dockside restaurant on Saturday night.

The tragedy unfolded around 9:30 p.m. at the American Fish Company restaurant located in the Southport Yacht Basin, roughly 30 miles south of Wilmington. Patrons dining al fresco were caught off guard as the unnamed assailant targeted the restaurant.

Reportedly, the shooter quickly fled the scene, speeding up the Intracoastal Waterway. Authorities were alerted when someone resembling the suspect was seen loading the boat at a nearby marina on Oak Island, approximately 5 miles from the restaurant, around 10 p.m., according to information from city officials.

The U.S. Coast Guard apprehended a person of interest who is currently detained by Oak Island police, where they await transport back to Southport for further questioning.

While authorities have not disclosed the identity of the detainee, nor the motive behind the tragedy, they initially classified the situation as an “active shooter” scenario before the arrest was made.

“It’s important to note that there is currently no known credible threat to the public,” police stated, assuring residents that officers from various agencies are on hand to promote safety in the area.
