Chicago police are currently investigating a series of armed robberies that took place in River North, the Gold Coast, and Streeterville early Sunday morning. These incidents have left five people shaken and authorities on high alert.
The first robbery occurred at around 1:45 a.m. in the 100 block of West Hubbard Street in River North. A 28-year-old man was approached by three men who demanded his belongings. One of the suspects brandished a firearm and struck the victim before they fled the scene. The victim, fortunately, did not require medical attention. The suspects were described as three Black males, ranging from six feet to 6-foot-2 in height. Two were wearing black jackets, while the third, who wielded the gun, was in a tan jacket.
Several hours later, at approximately 6:45 a.m., a couple was robbed at gunpoint in the first block of East Cedar Street in the Gold Coast as they were getting ready to catch an Uber to the airport. Four men with a firearm took phones and a purse from the victims before fleeing in a light-colored sedan. The suspects in this incident were also described as four Black males, with one wearing a dark hoodie.
Shortly after this incident, another armed robbery was reported outside Lurie Children’s Hospital in Streeterville. A 31-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman were walking on East Chicago Avenue when an unknown individual brandished a firearm and demanded their belongings. The robber then fled in a gray sedan towards Lake Michigan. It was later discovered that the vehicle used in the getaway had been stolen from West Englewood.
These alarming incidents have put residents and visitors on edge in these popular neighborhoods. Police are working diligently to apprehend the suspects and ensure the safety of the community.
