7 Things to Remember When Building Your Career – Addicted 2 Success

Achieving success in any profession, as well as in personal life, requires a mix of determination, adaptability, and perseverance. It is essential to stay humble and grateful, recognizing the opportunities that come your way.

Furthermore, resilience and courage are vital: the courage to navigate the unpredictable turns life presents. Reflecting on my journey, I often recall the valuable guidance I received from motivational speaker Zig Ziglar.

He suggested taking the first step in any direction, and once you’ve started, it’s easier to adjust your course toward your goals.

Here are seven effective strategies that have propelled me forward in my career, and I’m confident they’ll benefit you as well:

1. Don’t Limit Your Thinking

If you’re familiar with Zig Ziglar, you may have heard his flea parable. Initially, when flea trainers placed fleas in an open jar, they would jump effortlessly out. However, once the jar was covered, the fleas kept hitting the lid, creating a mental limitation that persisted even after the lid was removed.

2. Accept That Careers Are Not Linear

Growing up, I accompanied my father on insurance sales calls, witnessing firsthand the challenges he faced. Despite moments of wanting to quit, he persevered. This experience shaped my understanding of the business world.

As I ventured into my own career, I learned to focus not just on my desires but also on necessary actions. Careers rarely unfold as expected—it’s crucial to seize opportunities, however unconventional they may seem.

3. Maintain Forward Momentum

<span. After already having worked in the U.S., a pivotal scholarship from British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC) opened doors for me. I had the privilege of experiencing every level within that organization, from hands-on production to high-stakes management meetings.

Despite witnessing the challenges the company faced due to labor disputes, I understood that to advance my career, relocating to America was necessary. I embraced this change wholeheartedly.

4. Discover Your Passion

I found my enthusiasm for the sports industry, having played semi-professional football for Oxford City Football Club in England. This passion drove me to carve a niche in revenue generation and community development for sports organizations.

My journey included working with esteemed entities such as the Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies, and the NBA, where I dedicated myself to enhancing growth and engagement.

5. Commit to Continuous Growth

When I launched my sports marketing firm, The Aspire Group, I served as CEO and later as Chairman, with an unwavering focus on growth. Aspire transformed into a leading firm in outsourced revenue generation, achieving substantial financial success for numerous clients.

Upon selling Aspire to Playfly Sports in May 2023, it became clear that this decision was pivotal for future growth, as they lead in sports multimedia rights and marketing.

6. Embrace Challenges as Opportunities

This principle is straightforward yet transformative. Pursue your goals relentlessly—climbing the corporate ladder requires determination and resilience.

When faced with obstacles, view them as opportunities for growth and advancement.

7. Take Action

Zig Ziglar’s teachings resonate deeply with me. Progress necessitates change. Often, you’ll need to take the initiative to create momentum, even in uncertainty.

Your starting point doesn’t have to be perfect; simply begin anywhere, and you’ll find your way as you move forward.

Every action, or inaction, has consequences. Taking that first step, even if it’s not precisely on target, is often the key to unlocking success.

At this stage in my life, my aim has shifted to making a meaningful impact, but the lessons learned over my career empower me to make a difference today.

This is the reward of steering your career with intention—you gain the experience, authority, and confidence to uplift others as well.
