In a rather engrossing turn of events, Season 2 of Nobody Wants This momentarily showcases the idyllic romance between Kristen Bell and Adam Brody’s characters, only to immediately plunge them into the depths of interfaith turmoil. It seems that true love requires more than just a catchy name; it also asks quite a lot of existential questioning.
Thursday, September 25, saw Netflix unveil the first look at the new season, where Joanne (Bell) and the dashing rabbi Noah (Brody) revel in the early stages of their relationship, blissfully unaware of the reality that waits just a heartbeat away. It seems Joanne’s skeptical approach to faith complicates her newfound love as she delves deeper into Noah’s Jewish principles.
“Noah and I are figuring out how to be a ‘we,’” Joanne remarks, demonstrating a flicker of optimism even as a subsequent scene suggests that this love story might be headed for rocky shores when she dismisses plans for conversion. That classic relationship foible: can you love someone’s faith while holding onto your skepticism?
Then comes the perennial question of children, thrusting our hopeful couple into yet another philosophical whirlpool. To Noah’s inquiry about their future progeny, Joanne responds nonchalantly, “Well, we haven’t gotten that far.” One can only imagine how that will play out during family dinners.
Meanwhile, Noah appears to be the epitome of romantic optimism—initially. “Part of being in a relationship is tackling these issues. And we will,” he reassures Joanne, to which she retorts, “I feel like we’ve been repeating that a lot lately.” Granted, even the most resilient of relationships can lose their sparkle amidst relentless questioning.
The trailer wraps up with Noah exhibiting a sudden shift in mood, contemplating whether their relationship is “doomed.” As he voicing this doubt, Joanne isn’t having any of it: “Excuse me? You’re not allowed to think that—no! I’m the cynical one here!” A classic response that reflects the often delicate balance of optimism and skepticism in love—perhaps far too familiar to many navigating similar scenarios.

The tease also introduces viewers to delightful new characters, featuring Leighton Meester, Seth Rogen, Miles Fowler, Alex Karpovsky, Arian Moayed, and Kate Berlant. Meester’s inclusion is particularly intriguing as it re-establishes the on-screen partnership with her off-screen spouse, Brody.
Beginning their romantic journey post-The Oranges in 2011, Meester and Brody have remained public figures of coupledom, collaborating on various projects, including Single Parents and even making appearances together on her recent CW series Good Cop/Bad Cop.
When the subject of her favorite moments from Nobody Wants This arose, Meester couldn’t help but gush. “Honestly, everything’s pretty spectacular. I particularly enjoyed the basketball sequences; they were quite amusing. Honestly, it’s challenging to detach from how well he performs because I’m such a fan,” she shared, unabashedly expressing her admiration for both her husband and the series itself.
In culmination, Season 2 of Nobody Wants This is set to premiere on Netflix on October 23. Will they overcome their interfaith challenges, or will the relationship falter under the weight of their philosophical discrepancies? Perhaps the audience will find both humor and truth in the journey of these modern romantics.
