Giovanni Michael Robinson Dead: Former Canadian Hockey Player Was 32

Tragedy struck the sports community as former Canadian hockey player Giovanni Michael Robinson was shot and killed during a golf trip, an event which came just weeks after celebrating the birth of his first daughter and mere days before his sister’s wedding.

Robinson, age 32, was gunned down in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin on the early hours of September 24, as confirmed by a statement from the local police department. Police conveyed that no suspects are in custody at this time, adding that the investigation into the troubling circumstances surrounding this act of violence is ongoing.

Shortly after midnight, while returning to his hotel following a round of golf at Whistling Straits, Robinson—known affectionately as “Mike” to family and friends—was shot, having just marked a personal milestone with his first hole-in-one.

“He was a very good man and an awesome brother,” shared Robinson’s brother Jacob in an interview with Milwaukee’s TMJ4 the day after the incident. “He was an even better husband and incredibly excited to be a father.”

Jacob expressed anguish over the loss, noting, “This senseless act has stripped away so many aspects of our lives—now my little niece, just six weeks old, will never truly know her father.”

Married in 2022, Mike and his wife, Rachel, welcomed baby Farrah in August, marking a beautiful new chapter in their lives, now overshadowed by tragedy.

The shocking murder overshadowed joy, as it occurred just one week before Mike’s sister’s wedding, which has since been postponed. Jacob shared, “My heart wrenchingly aches for my sister. I can’t even describe the pain of having to cancel her wedding to accommodate my brother’s funeral.”

Authorities are treating the incident as a drive-by shooting, as police reports indicate Mike was found with a single gunshot wound and could not be revived at the scene.

Mike’s hockey career included stints with the Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League and nearly a decade with the Stouffville Spirit of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), showcasing a promising journey that was abruptly cut short.

In response to Robinson’s untimely demise, the OJHL expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael Robinson’s family and friends during this devastating time. May the cherished memories provide some comfort.”
