In a disturbing turn of events on the West Side of Chicago, 22-year-old Christopher Anderson has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after he lured four individuals to his home under the guise of social meetings, only to rob them. This sentence comes despite Anderson being confined with an ankle monitor due to a prior machine gun possession case.

The Crimes

Anderson orchestrated these crimes using Instagram to plan encounters with unsuspecting victims. According to the Chicago Police Department, his first robbery occurred on November 27 when he targeted a concealed carry license holder. The victim lost numerous items, including an iPhone, a Coach bag, a Canada Goose coat, his firearms licenses, and a significant sum of $1,667 which Anderson transferred to his own CashApp account.

As the robberies progressed, Anderson’s second victim, robbed on December 14, reported the theft of a Nike track jacket and pants, a Canada Goose skull cap, an iPhone, and $79 in cash.

Detectives connected these incidents after victims positively identified Anderson through social media and photo lineups. Further investigation revealed incriminating messages on Anderson’s phone, sealing his fate.

Legal Proceedings

At the time of these robberies, Anderson was already facing serious gun-related charges stemming from an August 2024 arrest, during which police allegedly discovered a handgun equipped with a machine gun switch and an extended magazine concealed under the hood of a vehicle. Prosecutors requested that Anderson be kept in custody pending trial for these charges. However, Judge David Kelly’s decision allowed him to be released on electronic monitoring—an unfortunate misstep that led to further criminal activity.

On pleading guilty to four counts of armed robbery, Judge Ursula Walowski imposed a 15-year sentence. Furthermore, Anderson also pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of standard gun possession related to his earlier case, resulting in an additional three-year sentence.

Future Implications

Anderson’s time is expected to be significantly reduced due to Illinois’ 50% sentence reduction policy for good behavior. Considering the time already served while under electronic monitoring and his jail time on robbery charges, he may be eligible for release as early as May 2032.
