A man from Cicero is now facing serious felony charges after being apprehended for allegedly attempting to burglarize Chicago Police Department squad vehicles and Chicago Fire Department trucks parked within the city’s vehicle maintenance lot in Fuller Park.

Andres Estrada, age 26, was taken into custody just after midnight on the morning of September 29. Security personnel at the city’s lot, situated at 5219 South Wentworth Avenue, noticed him lurking between parked vehicles, as per the Chicago Police Department’s arrest report.

Responding officers searched the area and located Estrada, who made eye contact but then fled toward a fence, according to police accounts. As he ran away, he apparently discarded a backpack that held power tools, a ratchet set, drill bits, and siren cables.

A CPD helicopter was deployed to the scene and quickly identified a heat signature that turned out to be Estrada. While being interrogated, he allegedly claimed he was merely serving as a lookout.

Following his arrest, officers uncovered a second bag that contained various stolen items, including four Ford hubcaps, two CPD radios, two police lights, two motherboards, a radio from the Chicago Fire Department, and a collection of multi-colored siren wires.

Judge Shauna Boliker subsequently released Estrada on bail while he awaits trial on charges related to burglary and possession of burglary tools.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of five residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown, who were frustrated with the misinformation circulated during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings.

Our reporting area has since expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and several other neighborhoods on the North Side. However, our mission remains constant: to deliver original public safety reports with more context and detail than what mainstream media offers.
