Former President Donald Trump signs a document in the Oval Office, flanked by advisors and U.S. flags, with a map visible in the background.

In a bold move on Monday, President Trump reinstated the Ambler Road Project in Alaska through a signed executive order, establishing a 211-mile access route for mining companies aimed at unlocking extensive mineral deposits.

“We’re transforming [Alaska] into a greater, more prosperous state, creating jobs and tapping into an economic gold mine,” Trump stated with evident enthusiasm.

This initiative effectively overturns the Biden administration’s earlier blockade of Trump’s once-sanctioned plan.

As reported by The Gateway Pundit, Biden had halted these plans last April and imposed a ban on oil and gas extraction across approximately half of Alaska’s extensive petroleum reserve. This reserve, encompassing 23 million acres, serves as an emergency oil source originally designated for the U.S. Navy, dating back to the early 1920s.

“I initiated this project years ago, and Biden made it vanish,” Trump remarked to reporters in the Oval Office.

“This project could have been bolstering our economy and supplying vital energy and minerals long ago. Instead, they stifled progress, squandering time, effort, and money. Now, we’re setting the wheels in motion again, and this time we intend to execute it properly,” he elaborated.

In March 2025, under Trump’s initiative dubbed “Unleashing Alaska’s Extraordinary Resource Potential,” Interior Secretary Doug Burgum was at the forefront of efforts by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to “enhance exploration and development prospects in the National Petroleum Reserve and the Coastal Plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge,” according to an official press release. The BLM also initiated steps toward reviving the Ambler Road project and other liquid natural gas pipelines in Alaska.

During the announcement, President Trump was flanked by Secretary Burgum, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and mining expert David Copley from the National Security Council.

Burgum highlighted that the Ambler Road project promises mining companies access to “some of the richest mineral deposits in America and the world,” which he deemed essential for national defense. He stressed the importance of maintaining competitiveness against China, which currently dominates the mining and refining of critical minerals.

Burgum forecasted that construction of the road could commence as soon as Spring 2026.

Wright praised the executive order as a decisive victory for Alaskan residents, underscoring its economic benefits for both Alaska and the broader U.S. mining industry. “Biden’s decisions sidelined both industries, leaving us in a precarious situation,” he added.
