On a rather tumultuous Sunday, officers from the Chicago Police Department received a rather unorthodox mandate to “stand down” as federal agents faced coordinated attacks in the Brighton Park neighborhood of the city early Saturday morning.

The Gateway Pundit reported that federal officials from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) found themselves under siege by a convoy of around ten vehicles. This aggressive display was branded a “coordinated assault” by domestic extremists opposing President Trump’s controversial deportation efforts in Chicago.

The incident ignited when a vehicle operated by Marimar Martinez, a known provocateur with a notorious online history of doxxing ICE agents, allegedly collided with an ICE patrol unit while brandishing a semi-automatic firearm. This dramatic scene quickly escalated as agents, outnumbered and cornered, were compelled to exit their vehicles and return fire, striking Martinez in the shoulder during the exchange.

The following Monday, Polk County, Florida Sheriff Grady Judd released a video statement expressing outrage over the Chicago Police Department’s dangerous inaction.

After fleeing the scene, Martinez sought medical attention at Mount Sinai Hospital and was subsequently taken into custody by the FBI. Another individual, Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, was arrested and currently remains detained at the federal level.

Fortuitously, no federal officers suffered life-threatening injuries, although several CBP agents were treated for minor wounds sustained during the altercation.

In a perplexing turn of events, despite multiple 911 calls pleading for assistance from the agents, Chicago police did not deploy any units to the scene, adhering to a direct “no response” order from command. Audio recordings unveiled the moment units heading to help were waved off, with a dispatcher stating, “I’m waving off all of the cars heading to 39th Place in Kedzie.” Another voice confirmed, “Those are the orders we’re giving.”

John Garrido, a Chicago attorney and former police lieutenant, shared his dismay on social media, labeling the stand-down order as “deeply disturbing and possibly illegal.”

On Monday, Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County condemned the Chicago police’s refusal to assist their ICE counterparts as they were under siege from anarchists. He warned, “People will die! People will be shot!” if such inaction persists.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd: Hello, I’m Sheriff Grady Judd. I’ve dedicated my entire adult life to law enforcement, and I have never encountered a scenario where one agency declines to assist another calling for help—until this weekend, when the chief of patrol for the Chicago Police Department instructed officers not to assist their colleagues under assault by individuals who were clearly breaking the law.

This situation is frightening. To highlight the contrasting approach, we once had an incident where a single individual resisted ICE agents in our jurisdiction. We deployed a helicopter, drone, canine units, and 50 law enforcement officers to secure the area, ultimately apprehending the suspect where he belonged—in jail.

If you permit anarchists and criminals to run rampant in your community, fatalities will occur. People will be shot. Law enforcement leaders nationwide need to vocalize the same sentiments I’m expressing. A breakdown in the rule of law, allowing criminals to take over the streets and fail to support law enforcement in peril, represents a very slippery slope.
