Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Aims for New Jersey Correctional Facility.
In a twist befitting his tumultuous career, rap mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is preparing to trade his time at the Brooklyn MDC prison for what he hopes will be a more rehabilitative environment. Fresh off appealing his conviction and sentence amid a staggering 70 ongoing civil lawsuits, Diddy is eyeing a longer stay—a further three years in a more permanent correctional institution.
Yesterday, his legal representatives revealed his preference for the low-security FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, citing the facility’s drug treatment and rehabilitation programs as key factors in their request.
As reported by the New York Post, “Combs’ legal team submitted a request on Monday designating the Garden State facility as the disgraced rapper’s preferred incarceration site following his mild sentence for prostitution-related charges received on Friday.”
Attorney Teny Geragos, in a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, emphasized, “To address drug abuse issues and maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we kindly ask the Court to recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”
“RDAP, or the Residential Drug Abuse Program, is the Bureau of Prisons’ most intensive treatment program,” highlighting their hopes for a silver lining in this dark period of his life.
Many observers perceive Diddy’s request for inclusion in such programs as an astute strategy to redirect attention away from his transgressions, framing his actions as products of drug use and psychological struggles. Anteceding his sentencing, Combs penned a letter to Judge Subramanian, proclaiming his newfound commitment to sobriety as evidence of his ‘hard work.’
“I’m proud to say I’m working harder than I ever have before. I’m committed to the journey of remaining a drug-free, non-violent and peaceful person. I thank God that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear, and sober. God makes no mistakes,” he asserted.
