DocuBay has unveiled a new original documentary that delves into the burgeoning erotica industry in India, which is increasingly facing stringent regulations and content limits on streaming services.
“Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica,” directed by Heena Dsouza and produced by HumaraMovie, features candid conversations with prominent figures in the sector, including Maya Jafar and Rajsi Verma. The film sheds light on the hurdles faced by performers and content creators in an environment rife with societal judgment and strict censorship.
“At IN10 Media Network, our mission has always been to challenge the narrative surrounding subjects often discussed in hushed tones and to cast light on them openly,” stated Aditya Pittie, managing director of IN10 Media Network, the parent organization of DocuBay. “While the glitz of the entertainment sector receives ample attention, there exists a vast, intricate side that remains largely unexamined.”
Samar Khan, chief operating officer of DocuBay, emphasized, “The documentary goes beyond merely covering the realm of erotica; it navigates the financial dynamics involved and the intersections between content, commerce, and censorship. It’s an authentic depiction of an ecosystem that continues to flourish even while operating on the periphery.”
This initiative marks a partnership between DocuBay’s international streaming service and HumaraMovie, one of India’s premier independent production companies. Abhishek Gautam, associate producer at HumaraMovie, highlighted that the documentary serves as a voice for artists who seldom share their stories publicly.
“Their narratives enrich the film with authenticity, making it essential to present these genuine views in the documentary,” Gautam remarked. “Teamwork with DocuBay has been pivotal in realizing this vision, bolstered by the platform’s robust global footprint.”
Director Dsouza expressed her ambition to transcend judgment. “My aim was to humanize this sector, to highlight the individuals who contribute to its identity,” she shared. “Putting their voices at the forefront and unraveling the complexities of this concealed ecosystem has been an enlightening experience.”
“Dirty Entertainers: The Business of Indian Erotica” can be streamed exclusively on DocuBay, accessible in over 170 nations across various platforms including the Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Fire TV, Roku, Apple TV, and Samsung TVs.
HumaraMovie’s portfolio includes the series “Mukesh Jasoos” on Disney+ Hotstar, the Netflix film “Jaaon Kahaan Bata Ae Dil,” and the Marathi feature “Follower,” which debuted at the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
