Today, Lindsey Halligan, the newly appointed U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, revealed that a federal grand jury has issued an indictment against New York State Attorney General Letitia James. The charges include Bank Fraud under 18 U.S.C. Section 1344 and False Statements to a Financial Institution under 18 U.S.C. Section 1014.
In a swift retort, New York Attorney General Letitia James took to Twitter to voice her defiance:
This is nothing more than a continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system.
I am not fearful — I am fearless.
We will fight these baseless charges aggressively, and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights. pic.twitter.com/X9U0EsHuGM

“This move is nothing short of a systematic attempt to weaponize our justice system for political gain,” James asserted. She argues that the charges stem from her diligent work as attorney general, insisting they are unfounded and stem from a personal vendetta orchestrated by the president. This is no mere political theatre; she claims it represents a severe breach of constitutional integrity, drawing ire from both sides of the political spectrum. The President’s removal of a U.S. attorney who sought to remain impartial further exemplifies this crisis of loyalty—favoring allegiance to politics over justice.
James emphasized, “This is the moment for unwillingness to accept political manipulation to prevail across party lines. The integrity of our legal system is at stake.” She champions her ongoing litigation against the Trump organization as a model of law based on evidence, not political expediency. Courts have already recognized the accountability of Donald Trump, his enterprise, and his two sons in cases of fraud. In her impassioned defense, she invoked her personal faith, claiming, “I am not intimidated; I am invincible. True faith allows no room for fear.”
In closing, James reaffirmed her commitment to defending her office’s actions against “this fictional narrative of charges”—a resolve, she insists, that will ensure the safeguarding of New Yorkers’ rights and uphold the principles of justice.
