When it’s time to return to Boston, you have two options: take the Commuter Rail back to North Station or embark on a scenic water journey. The Salem Ferry allows you to reach Boston in less than an hour while enjoying various breathtaking views along the route.

Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie

While traditional trick-or-treating may be off-limits, there’s always a way to satisfy your craving for sweets. Step into Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie, where the inviting wooden decor and the smell of fresh candy will take you back to grandma’s kitchen. Given Salem’s rich history, it’s no surprise that even the sweets have captivating stories.

Schooner Fame

The Fame is a full-scale replica of the first American privateer to set sail during the War of 1812, capturing over twenty vessels before its demise in 1814. Now, this replica navigates the waters of Salem Sound, where Indigenous peoples, pirates, and privateers have created a legacy for centuries. The ship operates from Memorial Day to Halloween, departing from Pickering Wharf Marina in downtown Salem, and offers both private charters and scheduled sails for day trips and sunset outings.

Maitland Farm, Kitchen and Spirits

A recent addition to Salem’s vibrant dining scene, Maitland Farm, Kitchen and Spirits delivers on its promises. It’s an ideal location for a quick and satisfying lunch, featuring a menu crafted with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. On chilly days, their mouthwatering grilled cheese on toasted baguette is the perfect comfort food.

Goodnight Fatty

The quirky name might catch your attention, but it’s the tempting offerings that will make you stop in your tracks. This weekends-only bakery has gained a cult following for its signature item: an impressively thick cookie piled high with extravagant toppings like marshmallows or Oreos, served warm from the oven. These treats are indulgent enough to make you forget any past juice cleanse resolutions. Just like visiting the P.E.M. or the Salem Witch Museum, indulging in a “fatty” has become a local rite of passage.

Bernadette

Launched in late 2024, Bernadette is a restaurant that encourages you to linger longer in Salem. Its French-inspired menu features delights like tartes flambées, ratatouille, and poulet rÎti, all made with locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. The decor strikes a balance between luxurious and accessible, creating a warm atmosphere for diners.
