Mike Johnson Has 48 Hours To Swear In Adelita Grijalva Or Arizona Is Suing Him

In a noteworthy development for Arizona politics, the official confirmation of Rep.-Elect Adelita Grijalva’s election win has concluded, bringing an end to the prolonged antics surrounding her candidacy. The Arizona Attorney General has decisively put an end to any lingering disputes.

Grijalva expressed her delight in a statement, asserting that the election’s certification is not just a bureaucratic formality but rather a validation of the clear decision made by the voters three weeks prior, where she secured a commanding victory by over 40,000 votes.

Additionally, Grijalva extended her gratitude to state officials, including Governor Katie Hobbs, Attorney General Kris Mayes, and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, for diligently executing their responsibilities and advocating for the 800,000 Arizonans currently lacking representation in Congress.

In a decisive move, Attorney General Mayes has dispatched a formal demand letter to Johnson concerning Grijalva’s prompt swearing-in.

Mayes stated:

In the name of Arizona, I hereby demand that the distinguished Adelita Grijalva be sworn in as the representative for Arizona’s Seventh Congressional District without delay. Should there be any further obstruction to her seating or a lack of reasonable justification for the postponement, we will not hesitate to pursue legal action.

Frustrating the electorate’s choice within the House of Representatives not only subverts democracy but also undermines the essential nature of this institution. A member of the House is the only official in the federal government elected directly by the people, creating a critical link between them and their representatives. This is a foundational principle echoed in The Federalist No. 52, which emphasizes the necessity for the House to maintain an immediate connection with the populace. The House’s unique ability to originate key matters, such as revenue legislation, underscores its pivotal role in governance, as articulated in various writings by Madison and Hamilton.
