Chicago police have issued a warning to rideshare and food delivery drivers in parts of North Lawndale after a robbery crew has been targeting them in a series of holdups and carjackings over the past three weeks.
The robbers, believed to be part of the same group, have been involved in at least five incidents since mid-October. They have been using rideshare or delivery apps to lure drivers into traps. In three cases, the robbers ordered rides through Uber or Lyft, rode to their destinations, and then produced handguns or threatened violence to take the drivers’ vehicles.
In another incident, the robbers ordered food through a delivery app. When the driver arrived with the order, one of the offenders got into the driver’s car and drove off. A fifth robbery involved male offenders who approached a victim on foot, displayed a black handgun, and demanded property before fleeing.
The incidents linked to this crew include:
– 1000 block of South Springfield Avenue on October 18 at 12:05 a.m.
– 1500 block of South Keeler Avenue on October 19 at 4:15 a.m.
– 4200 block of West Fillmore Street on November 2 at 5:10 p.m.
– 1500 block of South Kedvale Avenue on November 2 at 8:15 p.m.
– 1400 block of South Karlov Avenue on November 5 at 12:39 a.m.
